LP + 7" ADN’ CKRYSTALL is Érick Moncollin (aka Dr. Strange), an artist from France and truly a pioneer in electronic music since the mid-70’s. Already in 1976, he was jamming with Vangelis and Tim Blake in Paris, and he was also testing the KORG MS20 in its flat prototype version (and is still owning and using a MS10 prototype today!). In 1982, he released his first album “Jazz’mad” which definitely is in Anna’s Top-5-electronic-music-albums list. The unique weirdness and brilliance of this album is unequalled and a class of its own. Érick never stopped playing and recording electronic music, but, of course, styles changed over the years. In late 2006, “Jazz’mad” was nearing its 25 years anniversary, and thus Anna asked Érick if he wasn’t interested in recording a sister album to it - in “Jazz’mad” style, of course! Érick enthusiastically agreed and armed himself with his two Kawai Synthesizer-100Fs, Korg KR-33, CRB’1969 Diamond 742, Roland Juno-60, Roland JX-3P, MXR phaser 100, Boss Flanger BF-2 and SDE200 Delay. Since the start in 2006, this prolific artist from Mjölby, Sweden, has done releases on Cipher, Husk, Hästen & Korset, Nil By Mouth and 905, just to name a few. Förruttnelsen is the first new release on RTB since the split LP with Sewer Election which was released early 2008. More organic and mostly recorded live to tape, Förruttnelsen shows a side of Altar Of Flies more reminiscent to the sounds of his live shows. This is more minimalistic in it's approach, weaving together tapeloops, field recordings, junk abuse and raw disciplined electronics creating an claustrophobic and bleak soundscape. Everything slowly builds up towards the abrasive 14 minute long title track closer, making this an monumental journey in all it's gloomy glory. The twenty-seventh release on Minimal Wave isAutumn‘s ‘Synthesize’ LP, selections from the bands best material. Autumn was the legendary project of Peter Bonne and Geert Coppens, two Belgian teenagers who started experimenting with the potentials of analog synthesizers during the late 70s and formed a band together soon after in 1980, quickly becoming one of the most truly visionary groups to emerge from the synth scene in Europe. The album is titled after theirSynthesizesingle which was recorded along with its b-side ‘The Third Autumn’ in 1981 in a professional 24 track studio in only 7 hours. Both songs became modest summer hits in Belgian dance clubs in 1982, and the release been highly sought after ever since. This album features ‘Synthesize’ and ‘The Third Autumn’, along with other cassette only favorites like ‘I Say You Hello’, ‘Not Afraid To Die’, and ‘Night In June’ (featured onAngular’s Cold Wave & Minimal Electronicscompilation in 2010). The music on this LP, Bad Dudes second, can easily be tagged as party prog, math rocks more care free cousin. I know that the term is a tad overused by now, but the rush of joy that comes from these brilliant tunes knocks me over in a convincing way every time. With a big grin on my face I sit back and take it, totally amazed. The title song on ”Eat Drugs” is one of this years most played songs at the office, but that said, this entire album proves that Bad Dudes seems to have nothing but great songs in them. We’re on the verge to play this one to bits. Minimal Wave presents a 4 song 7" EP by legendary German band Bal Paré. The band was formed in 1980 by Kirsten Klemm, Manfred Asmus and Matthias Schuster. Schuster, the brainchild behind the band, is also known for these projects: Geisterfahrer, Im Namen Des Volkes, Jeanette Und Das Land Z, and Das Institut. The four songs were recorded between 1981-1984 and have never been released before. Black Magic Disco is the new all-star band featuring Tom Greenwood (Jackie-O Motherfucker), Maurizio & Roberto Opalio (My Cat Is An Alien) and Ramona Ponzini (Painting Petals On Planet Ghost, Praxinoscope). The project was born out of an idea from Tom Greenwood, founder leader of the avant-folk-blues ensemble Jackie-O Motherfucker, who invited Maurizio and Roberto Opalio, aka the Italian improv duo My Cat Is An Alien (MCIAA), and their close collaborator Ramona Ponzini (also involved with the two brothers in the projects named Painting Petals On Planet Ghost and Praxinoscope, as well as in the new collaboration with Z'ev) to perform with him for two months of touring throughout all Europe in May/ June 2005. As one can imagine, the result was killer. The music which came out of the live performances was totally explosive, combining Ramona's Japanese vocals & hypnotic chimes with Greenwood's psych-blues guitar attitude & wild turntablism, over MCIAA's alien cosmic flux of electric guitars, space toys & percussions, creating a still unheard mixture of sounds unifying archaic & post-modern, western & eastern, sky & earth. This debut CD represents a unique chance to experience almost 80 minutes of that pure and magic live action, divided in four long tracks taken from the original live recordings. LP + 7". After the release of “Horizons of Suburbia” (ANNA 001) in summer 2005, CAMERA OBSCURA definitely wanted to enter the stage again after more than 20 years of stage absence. They were invited to play at a small Minimal Electro festival called “Alles in einem” (“All in one”) in Hannover, Germany, Oct, 8th, 2005 together with the German projects Sickdoll and Solitude FX. Peter and Nigel performed a fully professional set with lots of love, enthusiasm and fun. Eight tracks from this show were chosen to be released on this vinyl album for those who were there and for those who were not. “Vincent van Gogh” and “Fever Pitch” are yet unheard newly recorded versions. Performing the then totally unknown “Moving the Mercury” eventually led to the release of the 7” (ANNA 002). When CAMERA OBSCURA were playing in Germany last year, they were also playing a fantastic tune yet unknown to the audience. Anna asked them what it was and they said it was another old tune called “Moving the Mercury”. To Anna, it was clear right away that it had to be released on vinyl as well, but it needed quite some convincing to get Peter’s and Nigel’s OK, which was not due to the potential of that song but due to the poor sound quality of the original tape. Anyway, now it has been restored to make it available to you. The next day, Peter told Anna that they had another tune called “Strange Faces” which, back in 1984, was supposed to become a 7”. But, like with the album, this never happened. But, fortunate as you are, Anna once again attended to the affair and so you can get these great songs on a black vinyl-7” oddly enough spinning at 45 rpm on the A-side and 33 1/3 rpm on the B-side. -Anna Logue. CAR CRASH SET were one of the very few electropop acts coming out of New Zealand and have released several vinyls nationally between 1983 and 1986. Basically, the CAR CRASH SET consisted of synthesists/composers David Bulog and Nigel Russell and guitarist/producer Trevor Reekie, and was formed in late 1981. They created such outstanding electropop songs with a Roland TR-606/808 and such lovely sequencing, - e.g. “Fall from Grace” is definitely a song that Anna will take with her into her grave – that it is indeed a shame that they didn’t receive more attention. Anyway, their 1983 12” ‘Two Songs’ (including “Outsider” and “Fall from Grace”) and the V/A ‘We’ll do our best’ LP (including CAR CRASH SET’s “Toys”) are at least highly collectible items amongst electropop connoisseurs and many people will be happy to see these tracks being available again as well as four previously unavailable demos from both their earliest and later days. David and Nigel are said to be recording again together with only the original Roland gear (“nothing else will do” as David says): TR-606, Jupiter-4, MC-4, System 100m modular and System 104 sequencer as well as Nigel’s Korg MS20… oh well, Anna is prepared! -Anna Logue Lim Ed 400x

… is the highly anticipated and Anna’s first release in co-operation with the Mannequin label from Rome, Italy. CHROMAGAIN were Luca Pastore (bass, guitar, synthesiser, lyrics, backing vocals), Silvio Ferrero (synthesisers) and Davide Bassino (vocals, lyrics) from Torino, Italy, and was formed in 1982. CHROMAGAIN had two other singers (at first Riccardo Acuto, then Danilo ‘Dana’ Barbero) before Davide Bassino joined as the main vocalist and core member. They started as a post-punk outfit in 1982, then evolving to one of the top-notch Italian electronic dark wave bands. The influence of Joy Division/New Order is inevitable, the playful and melodic bass and lots of synthesisers form the backbone to their songs. In 1985 they released their only vinyl mini-LP “Any Colour You Like” (Supporti Fonografici, SF 004; this label was also home of the similar sounding Weimar Gesang) which was recorded at TKS studio together Mauro Tavella and Andrea Costa of MONUMENTS fame, so no wonder you may recognize some similarity (the Simmons drum machine on those recording sessions, DX-7 synthesiser, etc.). The mini-LP had five tracks ranging from the rather most Italian dark wave sounding “Satisfied” to the up-beat track “Spot”, from the dark wave killer “Killing Dome” (oh that bass… this is for the goth clubs) to the hauntingly beautiful ballad “After the Clouds” and finally to their most New Order-ish track “Season of Steel”. “Any Colour You Like” has been a highly sought-after and expensive rarity ever since and a re-issue was more than overdue, so here is “Any Colour We Liked”, a retrospective compilation of CHROMAGAIN’s works: The vinyl version of “Any Colour We Liked” includes the complete and remastered mini-LP “Any Colour You Like”, plus “Wake Up” (a different version to the one previously released on the “Danza Meccanica – Italian Synth Wave 1982-1987” LP/CD compilation, MNQ 005/ITN 012), “Ethnicbox” from the “Tracce” LP compilation (1984, Shirak, CNW 8440) plus a previously unreleased Dub Instrumental version of “Season of Steel” and artwork by Mushy (Valentina Fanigliulo), thus covering their later phase from 1984/85 with Davide on vocals. -Anna

Coalition for a better tomorrow was originally recorded as a one time live collaboration. Between D.N. of the Eugenics Council, Andrew of Praying for Oblivion/Tote Stadt, Scott and Paul from Sikhara. The tracks where recorded live in the winter of 99.Originally packaged and released (by Menschenfeind Productions) in an edition of 33 and later in editon of two hundred each disc came packaged in a large Petri dish, the disc submerged in agar. Latex gloves where provided to retrieve the disc. All art work was grown on the agar using a mix of bacteria, phage and antibiotics. The release was only available in the U.S. for obvious reasons. The release includes all 3 Coalition for a Better Tomorrow tracks a little over 30 minutes, also included is the Eugenics Council live set at the Velvet Lounge from 1998 along with the Sikhara set from the same night. The cd is ended with 1 unreleased track each from the Eugenics Council, Praying for Oblivion, and Sikhara.

Minimal Wave proudly presents a newly remastered vinyl edition of the cult Swedish cassette compilation Orgelvärk, subtitled “en stadig samling svensk synthmusik” – “a solid collection of Swedish synth music”. Orgelvärk is a compilation of Swedish synthpop, experimental and industrial music representative of the underground tape scene that thrived there in the 1980s. Many of the bands didn’t quite fit into one particular genre, and most remained unknown. They lived in small villages and were making what can be described as electronic folk music.
Orgelvärk was originally compiled and released on cassette in 1986 by Tor Sigvardson, also known for his own musi- cal project 18:e Oktober and cassette label Neuköln. The vinyl edition includes five previously unreleased tracks which were submitted to Tor for the original 1986 cassette release but due to space limitations, never made it on there. All the audio has been remastered from the original tapes especially for vinyl by Tor himself. Limited edition of 999 hand-num- bered copies, pressed on 160 gram vinyl and presented in a matte gatefold jacket with a letter from Tor accompanied by further information on the bands. -MW

Street Drinkers, the soloproject of Viktor from Ättestupa, uses layers of synths and vocals to create minimal and dreamy music reminiscent of Wet Hair and Peaking Lights, but with a unique Swedish touch. After the feedback-mayhem on the Gothenburg Blood Cult Tape, Källarbarnen is now back with a more subtle and somewhat mellow track, here using synths, drums, bass and vocals. All lights are out and everything is falling apart. White is Dan from Ättestupa/Sewer Election, and the project should be known from the tapes on Harsh Head Rituals and Segerhuva. Hitting it hard with distorted synthbuzz and vocals, it ends up like the bastard child of Suicide via filth, crime and abuse. Ättestupa ends everything with the best song they have done, a haunting and intense piece called Änglamakerskan. Freezing winds evokes the mean spirit of an long forgotten era.
