Dark Entries is thrilled to present a 4-song compilation from one of the finest groups of the Spanish New Wave/Tecno-Pop scene of the 1980s. Vocoder were a quartet from Zaragoza, Spain formed in 1981. Keyboardists Antonio Laval and Alfonso Olarte attended the same university and fell in love with a Korg MS-20 synthesizer in a music shop window. They met keyboardist Antonio Tenas at a local radio station and were later joined by vocalist Pilar Pellicer. They recorded several demos with synthesizers, sequencers and drum machines, creating a soundtrack for the clubs and dance floors. Inspired by the “Movida Madrileña,” they sent demos to various record companies. The band signed a deal with Aviador Dro’s sublabel Neón Danza and released two EPs, “What Happens Now”/”Radio” in 1984, “Mindanao”/”Amor de Robot” in 1985 and a self-titled LP which was produced by Michel Huygen (Neuronium) in 1987. TECHNIQUES BERLIN "Breathing"
NADANNA proudly presents its new project, the Canadian synthpop act TECHNIQUES BERLIN! Formed in 1984 by high school buddies Andreas Gregor and David Rout, the band started experimenting with synthesizers, drum machines and guitars. In the early stages, TECHNIQUES BERLIN was heavily influenced by UK new romantic acts like Japan, Spandau Ballet, Visage, The Human League, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, Yazoo and Depeche Mode as well as rising Canadian synthpop bands Rational Youth (Dave become a member in 1998/99), Men Without Hats and Trans-X. It took them a few years to master their electronic toys and create a unique blend of addictive electropop melodies and beautifully crafted alternative beats. In the late 80s, TECHNIQUES BERLIN played live on a regular basis and their 3 cassettes, released on their own Bombshelter label, received frequent local airplay in Canada. Minimal Wave is proud to present a full length LP by French mastermind Philippe Laurent. The LP is entitled Hot-Bip, a pseudonym Laurent used throughout the 80s and 90s and also the title of his 1983 cassette on Fraction Studio. Hot-Bip features tracks recorded between 1979-1988, most of which have either remained unreleased or only previously appeared on scarce 80s experimental cassette compilations. Laurent’s music can be described as spacey synthpop, containing much depth and range. It is edgy, political and pushes the limits, transforming his sound beyond one specific genre. Hints of classical influences as well as electro influences can be heard. Hot-Bip showcases Laurent’s best musical output from the 80’s and includes some very avant-garde pieces from as early as 1979. A limited edition of 999 hand-numbered copies, this LP is pressed on 180 gram, translucent red vinyl and housed in a black and white matte printed heavyweight sleeve. -MW..

Formed in 1980 in Bristol, Mark Phillips (MAP) and Robert Lawrence came together with a shared passion for Krautrock, Industrial Electronics and the burgeoning DIY tape scene, as well as being influence by the Dadaist movement and the works of Burroughs and Ballard. Unconventional, quirky and at times melancholic and romantic, their music acted as the perfect escape from the urban decay of early 80s Bristol and Cardiff, the two cities they travelled between on weekends to record. Although unashamedly electronic, the sound of Five Time Of Dust is far harder to pin down, perhaps in part due to their location. Comes together with a bonus 7"! THE SILICON SCIENTIST is Stefan Bornhorst from Hamburg, Germany, and you will hear that he definitely has a deep fascination for analogue synthesizers and Electropop. In the early 90’s, he started composing and recording many tracks under the name of DREAMS ENCODED, from which a compilation LP and 7”EP is due later on ANNA LOGUE RECORDS. Some may also know Stefan from playing in the Wave group THE CONVENT in which he played synths both live and in the studio between 1999 and 2003. Also, in 2003, Stefan founded the well known wonderful German Elektropop-NDW group SONNENBRANDT together with CONVENT’s guitar player Jojo Brandt and Jojo’s wife Frau Sonne. Das Ding is Danny Bosten, who was active in the early 1980s releasing his music and friends' music via his own cassette label called Tear Apart Tapes. While studying graphic design in art school, he designed all the tape covers himself. Meanwhile, he recorded his own music as Das Ding. Powerful dark electro, some tracks are quite addictive and danceable while others are more for at home listening enjoyment. The dancefloor killer is somewhere between Reassurance Ritual and H.S.T.A.
